Falcon Romania discovers gas at Bilca well

Jul 02, 2004 02:00 AM

The Bilca-1 exploration well, situated in the Brodina block in northern Romania, in which Europa holds a 27.5 % working interest, is being suspended as a gas production well following testing at a rate of 6.3 mm cfpd (180 mm cmpd) from a Miocene sand.
The operator of the joint venture group, Falcon Romania, confirmed the results of the test.

The discovery was made possible by the analysis of new seismic data acquired by the group, which has also identified additional potential within the Miocene sequence on the block.
The group, which includes the Romanian state gas company Romgaz, intends to undertake a long-term test of the well in the near future to quantify proven reserves in the Bilca-1 well.

Europa has drilled three other wells in the UK and Ukraine to date, all of which have been commercial oil or gas wells.
Information on Europa’s upstream activities in Romania, Ukraine and the UK can be obtained from the website, www.europaoil.com
