Enough feed will help realize Iranian petrochemical production goal

Assuring a safe supply of petrochemical feed will help realize the Fifth Economic Development Plan’s goal for producing $ 20 bn worth of petrochemical products. Mohammad Hassan Peivandi, director of plan and development at the National Petrochemical Company told that supplying enough feed is one of the most important concerns of petrochemical industries up to 2015.
He said the Oil Ministry has declared its readiness to supply petrochemical industries with 15 mm tons ethane during the fourth and fifth economic development plans.

Peivandi said to produce $ 20 bn worth petrochemicals by 2015, the sector would need 10 mm tons ethane as well as 180 mm cm natural gas, about 300,000 barrels natural gas liquids (NGL) and 400,000 barrels gas condensate per day.
"Ethane is a major feed for petrochemical industry and will be used in producing polyethylene, glycol and styrene," he said.

The official said since petrochemical feed plays a pivotal role in creating added value, based on an approval by the National Iranian Oil Company, petrochemical industries must always be well supplied.
"Gas condensate is necessary for development of petrochemical industries and its supply needs special attention," he noted.
