Gas to account for 68 % of Iranian energy consumption

Gas will account of 68 % of energy consumption basket in the fourth five-year economic development plan (2005-10), said Director of the Gas Supply Project at National Iranian Gas Company Hamid-Reza Araqi.
Araqi told a group of officials in charge of gas affairs that he current share of gas in the energy consumption basket stands at 54 %.

He said that in the fourth plan $ 10 bn will be invested in gas sector which is equal to the company’s total investments over the past 40 years. He added that each cm of gas that replaces oil derivatives will mean saving the country 10 cents.
The official said gas consumption will rise to 18 mm cm in coming years from 3 mm cm at present.
