Ukraine to use Odessa-Brody oil pipeline in direction of Odessa

Jul 06, 2004 02:00 AM

The Ukrainian government, with its resolution of July 5, 2004 (#831) "On Introduction of Amendments into Provision 1 of the CMU Resolution of February 4, 2004 (#114)” and "On Measures to Increase Efficiency of the Use of trunk Oil Pipelines System" refused to transport oil through Brody-Brody oil pipeline only in the direction of Brody.
This was said in the governmental resolution.

On July 2 of the current year, Prime-Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych and RF Premier Mikhail Fradkov discussed joint use of Brody-Brody oil pipeline by Russia and Ukraine.
Fradkov explained that an agreement on oil transit was not signed at the sitting of the joint Russian-Ukrainian commission on July 2 because of technical problems.

In the beginning of 2004 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine announced the adoption of the decision to transport Caspian oil through the oil pipeline only in the direction of Brody, and refused Russian oil transporting through this oil pipeline in the direction of Odessa.
In late April President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma expressed an opinion that Caspian oil transporting through Brody-Brody oil pipeline in the direction of Brody is an economically unprofitable project.
