Gabon signs deal with Total

Nov 11, 2004 01:00 AM

The oil ministry in the central African country of Gabon signed a gas exploration and production-sharing contract with the local subsidiary of French oil major Total. The contract concerns a 2,109 sq km on-shore deposit of natural gas situated between Libreville, the capital in the north, and Port-Gentil, a port in the centre of the country.
"This is the first time in our country that an oil company has signed a contract to explore solely for natural gas," Oil Minister Richard Onouviet said after the contract was signed.
