Gazprom and BASF discuss broader cooperation

Oct 21, 2004 02:00 AM

The joint venture Akhimgaz is an example of a Russian-German cooperation, believes Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller. The company was set up in 2003 by subsidiaries of Gazprom and the German chemical concern BASF, UrengoiGazprom and Wintershall respectively.
"This joint venture is a model of cooperation with foreign partners for gas production in Russia," Miller said. He came to Germany for talks with BASF management.

Apart from achievements of Akhimgaz, the parties will discuss a possibility of another joint venture, Vingaz, taking part in the construction of the North-European gas pipeline, BASF representatives told.
The project will be carried out by Gazprom and Germany's E. ON and envisages construction of a pipeline across the bottom of the Baltic Sea to Germany and on to Great Britain and France.
