Norsk Hydro receives licence for exploratory drilling in Barents Sea

Oct 20, 2004 02:00 AM

The Norwegian Pollution Control Authority (SFT) has given Norsk Hydro a licence to carry out exploratory drilling in the Barents Sea this fall, using the "Eirik Raude" drilling rig.
The same rig will also be used by Statoil to drill another two wells.

SFT requires the use of satellite monitoring and biological mapping during the exploratory drilling program.
The drilling, down to a depth of 1,625 metres will be carried out in the so-called Obelix region, midway between the coast of Finnmark and the Bjornoeya island. The drilling will start at the end of November.
