Poland wants to buy Norwegian CNG

Oct 19, 2004 02:00 AM

Poland wants to buy compressed natural gas (CNG) from Norway until such time that a planned gas pipeline between Norway and Poland is completed. This was announced by the Polish Prime Minister, Marek Belka.
Belka made the statement, following a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, who was on a two-day visit to Poland, at the head of delegation from Norwegian industry.

According to Belka, the Polish state gas company, PGNiG, has entered into an intentional agreement with Norway's Statoil on the purchase of natural gas.
Russia has up to now been Poland's main supplier of natural gas, but the pipeline used crosses Belarussian territory, and earlier this year the pipeline was closed for a period.
