The Greek government plans to reform a regulatory framework covering Renewable Energy Sources, to improve planning conditions for the installation of such units and to strengthen electricity networks in the country, Development Deputy Minister George Salagoudis said.
Addressing a seminar held in Athens on "Financing Wind-power Parks and Attracting Small- and Medium-sized Investors", Salagoudis stressed that the government "is aiming to create a steadily developing market for renewable energy sources that will boost entrepreneurship, regional development and attract new and foreign investments."

The Greek minister noted that renewable energy sources were servicing a series of political aims "of crucial significance to the country", such as environmental protection in the framework of international agreed standards, regional growth and local employment, attract foreign investments.
"Our government has placed renewable energy sources equally alongside electricity, natural gas and liquid fuel in its energy program and plans to implement this political commitment," he said.

The minister stressed that immediate action, including an integrated, rationalized energy policy, a policy of interventions and incentives with clear aims and priorities, was needed to achieve this target.
"We face many problems, but we are fully aware of the problems. We want everyone involved in this business to stand by the government in its ambitious effort," he said. He added that enterprises have acquired operating licenses to build wind-power parks with a total power of 660 MW. These parks have not been constructed yet.
