Oct 17, 2004 02:00 AM

The possibility of existence of hydrocarbon reserves in the Persian Gulf island of Kish is on the rise, a senior official said.
Morteza Pakravan, managing-director of Persian Oil and Gas Drilling Company, said his company was ready to handle offshore and onshore projects. He linked the possibility of gas reserves in Kish to Lavan gas field in the Persian Gulf.

The newly discovered Lavan gas field contains 176 bn cm of recoverable gas reserves and 155 mm barrels of condensates with its value estimated at about $ 7 bn.
The gas field has raised Iran's total gas reserves to 27.3 tcm making Iran the second largest in the world after Russia in terms of proven gas reserves.
