Iran to link power grid to Russia

Oct 26, 2004 02:00 AM

Deputy managing director of Tavanir Company announced that Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia have signed a draft agreement according to which the Iranian power grid will be connected to Russian network within two years. Masoud Hojjat told that Iran will be able to get electricity from Russia in summertime.
"Russia, on the other hand, can get electricity from Iran during winter season," he said.

The draft agreement was signed between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia. The official also noted that experts are studying needed costs of the project. Hojjat told that the link will allow three neighbours to use one another's electricity production facilities in case of accident or shortage.
"The linkup will expand Iranian electricity network and increase stability of domestic power grid," he noted.
