Nigeria's state oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC), has fired 2,355 workers in a fresh round of restructuring of the company.
The company's CEO Funsho Kupolokun commented, "The NNPC is at the verge of a new phase in its existence and requires a new and more effective balance in terms of skills, age and experience."

He added, that the exercise cut across all cadres of the corporation's workforce.
The corporation however planned to bring in some 700 young graduates to replace some of those that have been laid off, Kupolokun said.
