Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) announced that construction of a fourth oil refinery will start with the beginning of 2007 to be completed within three years at a cost of 1 bn Kuwaiti dinars.

KNPC Board Chairman and Managing Director Sami Al-Reshaid said after signing an agreement with "Floor International Enterprise" to offer management and consultancy services for the construction of the new refinery that the project will have positive effects on the environment and the Kuwaiti economy.
"The refinery aims to suffice Kuwait's needs of clean fuel to generate energy," indicated Al-Reshaid.

Meanwhile, Director of the project Ahmed Al-Jimaz said that the main aim behind constructing the refinery is to supply the power plants in Kuwait with the necessary fuel which would be more suitable for the environment, in addition to a high quality petrol, kerosene and diesel.
"The refinery's capacity will be about 450,000 bpd and it will be distinguished from other refineries as it will receive all kinds of crude oil," explained Al-Jimaz, adding that it will be constructed in Al-Shuaiba area as it has the necessary infrastructure for such a project.
