Iran's exports to Austria increase 4-fold in 2004

Iran’s exports to Austria from January to September 2004 increased four times compared to the figure reported for the same period in 2003, it was announced. Deputy Austrian Minister of Economy and Labour Joseph Mayor made the disclosure at a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Vienna Mohsen Nabavi.
The meeting was held for the purpose of discussing preparations to be made for the upcoming 8th session of the Iran-Austria Joint Economic Commission to be held in Tehran.

Welcoming the expansion of economic ties with Tehran, Mayor noted the increasing volume of Iranian exports to Austria in recent years. He said his ministry will soon propose a date for holding the 8th commission session.
Austrian Minister of Economy and Labour Martin Barten Stein and Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines Es'haq Jahangiri will jointly chair the joint commission session. The Iranian ambassador then conveyed an invitation from the Iranian industries minister for Barten Stein to visit Iran and attend the upcoming session of the two countries` joint economic commission.

Briefing the Austrian minister on the trend of bilateral cooperation between the two states, Nabavi called for expansion of Tehran-Vienna relations in the areas of energy and exchange of technology. Referring to the geo-economic importance of Austria in the European continent, the Iranian envoy underlined the need for further promotion of bilateral oil and gas cooperation.
He said that the possibility of laying pipelines to transfer Iranian gas to Europe via Austria would have strategic and practical benefits for both countries.

Nabavi also called for expansion of Iran-Vienna cooperation on current developments in Iraq, Afghanistan and Central Asia.
