Sonatrach awards nine licences to international firms

Sonatrach, the Algerian state-owned energy company has awarded nine new licences for oil and gas exploration to international companies including BP and Shell.
Of the ten blocks offered, nine have been awarded to international companies.

BP won three blocks, while each of BHP Billiton, Gulf Keystone and Shell were awarded with two blocks.
Algeria's goal is to reach production of 1.5 mm bpd this year.
