China seeks to reduce its dependence on imported oil

Apr 25, 2005 02:00 AM

China is seeking to lower its reliance on oil imports to around 35 % by 2020, said Wang Tao, senior vice president of the World Petroleum Congress.
He added energy supplies, especially oil supply, cannot meet the demand of China's soaring economy.

In 2004 about 40 % of China's oil supply was from imports.
China's average resources per capita are much lower than the world average, due to the country's large population.
