Chevron signs MoU with Nigerian host communities

Oct 03, 2005 02:00 AM

Chevron Nigeria will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ijaw clans of Egbema and Gbaramatu in Warri.
The new MoU titled: Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) would be signed with the leadership of both clans under the aegis of Egbema-Gbaramatu Central Development Council.

Chevron's General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Femi Odumabo said the signing would further cement the existing relationship between the company and the people in its area of operation.
Egbema -- Gbaramatu clans, which are in Warri South-west and Warri North Local Government areas of Delta State in conjunction with their Itsekiri neighbours, are hosts to almost all of Chevrons operations in the area. Misunderstandings over MoUs signed in the past were responsible for a lot of face-off between the company and its host communities.
