Pakistan to award 30 new licences by yearend

The government has decided to award 30 new oil and gas exploration licences to increase oil and gas production in Pakistan by the end of 2005, a government official said.
He said the onshore concession areas included eastern Balochistan, central Punjab and lower Indus in Sindh.

He said oil and gas consumption in the country had grown at 6.6 % in the past five years and that the government wanted to increase the level of oil production from 64,000 to 100,000 barrels and gas from 3 to 5 bn cfpd in the future.
Of the total gas consumption in the country, he said the power sector accounted for almost 38 % and still wanted more.
