Expert cautions Uganda on oil

Jul 21, 2006 02:00 AM

An Australian oil drilling expert, David Dowling, has warned Ugandans against jubilating over the ongoing oil exploration exercise.
Dowling, who is the overall field supervisor of Hardman Resources, told Bunyoro Parliamentary Group that it was too early to determine whether there was an adequate amount of oil in the area to celebrate about.

Bunyoro MPs were meeting the Hardman officials at their Kyehoro place on the Lake Albert shores, following a one-day familiarisation tour of the oil sites.
"All I can tell you as an oil expert is that the process is still long. You can possibly think of celebrating in two years' time because we are in the phase of testing to ascertain the quality and the quantity, which is likely to last a number of months," Dowling said.

He, however, added, "The oil at the Waraga well is very promising. It is a good type, according to world market standards.”
“It's like honey. It is waxy and not easy to extract but flows in big amounts."
