Ecuador and Indonesia agree to cooperate in oil sector

Indonesia and Ecuador agreed to collaborate in the oil and gas sector, foreign ministers of the two countries said in Jakarta.
Both sides signed an agreement on mining and energy to facilitate the existing initiative among the companies of the two countries, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda.

He said that Indonesia sent a delegation to Ecuador earlier that was led by the state-owned oil firm Pertamina.
"We have just signed memorandum of understanding in the oil and gas sector, actually (it is) a reflection of the wish of the two governments to work closely to promote our pilot cooperation in the energy sector," said Wirajuda.

On the same occasion, visiting Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Francisco Carrion said that his country now was seeking a new stakeholder in the sector and expected the Indonesia's expertise in the field could be useful for his country.
"Ecuador now is seeking for the participation of new stakeholder company," he said.

In addition to the agreement, both sides also signed memoranda of understanding, including those on visa extension, bilateral consultation, cooperation on diplomatic education, and training programs between the foreign affairs ministries of the Indonesia and Ecuador.
