Petronet seeks LNG from Algeria

Dec 14, 2006 01:00 AM

It's already getting LNG from Qatar and has tied up a long term supply deal from Australia's Gorgon fields and now Petronet LNG is looking at Algeria as its next long-term supplier of gas.
Petronet LNG is in talks with Algeria's Sonatrach for LNG supply and it may firm up deal for 2.5 mm tpy with Sonatrach for Kochi terminal.

The company Chief is visiting Algeria to talk for supplies from Sonatrach can start from June 2010. Petronet LNG is knocking many doors for tying up additional supplies of LNG for its Kochi terminal.
Besides Algeria, talks are also on with other countries like Nigeria and Qatar.

However, for now the good news is that supplies from Australia's Gorgon fields are on track. The Gorgon project receives environmental clearance from Australian government:
-- Australia's Gorgon LNG assures supplies from June 2011
-- All agreements to be in place by June next year

The other priority for Petronet LNG is to firm up the price for spot cargoes of LNG that it is hoping to receive at its Dahej terminal from next year.
This will help provide the much-needed fuel for the Dabhol Power Project.
