Medgaz to start building Algerian gas pipeline

Dec 21, 2006 01:00 AM

The Medgaz consortium said it finalized the decision to invest EUR 900 mm in building a pipeline to bring Algerian natural gas under the Mediterranean to the Spanish port of Almeria.
Construction will start next year, Medgaz said. The 210- km pipeline is expected to come on-stream by 2009, it said. It will carry the gas, produced in Algeria's Hassi R'Mel field, from a terminal at Beni Saf on the Algerian coast to Almeria.

The consortium includes Spain's Endesa, Cepsa and Iberdrola, France's Gaz de France and Algeria's state-owned oil and gas company Sonatrach.
