Turkey and Kazakhstan to cooperate in energy

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that Turkey and Kazakhstan have a great capacity of cooperation in energy issues, and the two countries are determined to cooperate to this end.
Meeting with Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Marat Tazhin who is currently paying an official visit to Turkey, Gul said, "We attach great importance to our bilateral relations with Kazakhstan. Recently, Kazakhstan has become the rising star of Asia. As a result, amount of foreign investments in Kazakhstan has increased considerably."

Underlining the capacity of economic and commercial relations between Turkey and Kazakhstan, Gul said, "Trade volume between the countries exceeded $ 1.5 bn recently. Turkish businessmen and contractors have undertaken a series of important projects in Kazakhstan.”
“On the other hand, Kazakh businessmen have begun investing in Turkey in the sectors of banking and tourism."

Stating that the two countries were planning to complete the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum natural gas pipeline this year, Gul said that Turkey also cooperates with Kazakhstan in issues such as fight against terrorism.
"We will continue supporting Kazakhstan in international platforms. We support Kazakhstan's candidacy to the rotating presidency of Organization of the Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)," Gul said.

Meanwhile, Tazhin said that they considered Turkey one of the most important partners of Kazakhstan in Middle East and Asia, stating that the trade volume between Turkey and Kazakhstan increased by 60 % in 2006.
