US criticizes Turkey for strategic partnership with Iran

Apr 07, 2007 02:00 AM

The United States expressed its concern and objection regarding Turkey's plans to establish a strategic alliance with Iran in the field of energy, according to a diplomatic source from US Embassy in Ankara.
”We're watching the situation with concern,” said a US diplomat.

Turkey and Iran have agreed to build a long-term cooperation in the energy sector, namely drilling oil and natural gas and transferring Iranian oil and gas to Europe.
This new step is considered as vitally important by Turkey in order for it to become a global player in the energy market.
