Azerbaijan offers pipeline service to Caspian oil producers

Jun 17, 2007 02:00 AM

Azerbaijan is willing to help Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and other Caspian oil producers to transport oil and natural gas to the international market, said President Ilham Aliyev.
Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which bypasses Russia to ship Caspian Sea oil to the west, and it has been carried out smoothly, Aliyev was quoted as saying. He said that Azerbaijan would like to cooperate with the Caspian countries which need Azerbaijan's infrastructure to transport their oil and natural gas to the European and global markets.

When asked whether Azerbaijan would compete with Russia as a route to transport oil and gas, Aliyev said Azerbaijan is not competing with other nations with its railways and oil and gas pipelines.
Instead, Azerbaijan is seeking to raise its status in the region as well as the Euro-Asian continent by making the best use of its advantages in energy, resources and geography, he added.
