Fugro wins Galsi pipeline route contract

Galsi has let an EUR 18 mm contract to Fugro of Leidschendam, the Netherlands, to determine the best route for a proposed 8 bn cmpy pipeline that is expected to start operations at yearend 2009.

Fugro will carry out a detailed marine survey in the Mediterranean Sea to select the best route from Algeria to southern Sardinia and then from northern Sardinia to mainland Italy. Marine work will begin immediately and is expected to complete in April 2008.
A final report will be published at the end of July 2008.

The 529-km pipeline will lie in 2,850 m of water. Fugro will manage the entire detailed marine survey project, which will include a geophysical and hydrographical survey, with its Geo Prospector vessel and the use of an autonomous underwater vehicle as well as offshore seabed geotechnical investigations by two vessels, including Fugro's Bucentaur vessel.
Galsi is a joint venture of Sonatrach, Edison, Enel, Wintershall, Hera, and Sardinian company Sfirs.
