Iberdrola accepted for La Venta III tender as sole bidder

Oct 18, 2007 02:00 AM

Iberdrola Energia, a unit of Spanish power group Iberdrola, submitted the only qualified bid for Mexican state power company CFE's tender for the 101 MW La Venta III wind power project in Oaxaca state.
Iberdrola Energia's bid now moves to the economic analysis phase, CFE said at the tender ceremony.

CFE received another bid for the project from a Spanish consortium of Elecnor and Enerfin Sociedad de Energia. However, the consortium's offer did not satisfy CFE bidding requirements and as such was declared "not technically solvent" and disqualified, CFE said.
As a result of the consortium's disqualification, CFE did not unveil details of Iberdrola's economic bid.

Works originally were due to begin on January 31, 2008, and wrap up in May 2009, but no new timeline has been announced since a roughly one-week delay in opening economic bids set back the tender process. Under the independent power producer contract, the winner will supply electricity to CFE for 20 years.
The World Bank last year approved a $ 25mn grant from the Global Environment Facility to support La Venta III.
