Oct 24, 2007 02:00 AM

Indonesia's Energy & Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and his Icelandic counterpart Ossur Skarpheoinsson have signed a memorandum of understanding confirming co-operation on the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia.
The MoU would be of great importance to Indonesia and Iceland, Ossur said, adding that the co-operation in the energy sector was expected to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries.

Ossur said Indonesia had potential geothermal energy reserves of about 27,000 MW, which had yet to be developed. He said Iceland wished to share its experience in the exploitation of geothermal energy.
Indonesia's geothermal energy reserves are estimated to be commercially exploitable over a period of 20 to 30 years, he said.
