Russia's Gazprom calls for Iran's more active role in the world gas industry as the country possesses the second largest gas reserves.
Deputy Director of Gazprom's Centre of Gas Resources Vladimir Yakushev made the remark on the sidelines of the third meeting of the International Gas Union (IGU) in Assalouyeh, southern Iran. The idea of setting up an international gas organization similar to OPEC is currently being discussed by the world community, he added.

A non-government organization with 69 member states, the IGU has been active worldwide for 75 years.
It is comprised of five committees charged with refinement and exploration, storage of natural gas, transmission, distribution and utilization and exploitation.
