State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic -- SOCAR -- has begun exports of natural gas to neighbouring Iran, Nazim Samedzade, the vice-president of Azerigaz joint-stock company told.
Exports began in the first days of February, he said, adding that the two countries had signed an agreement for 30 mm cm of gas.

Iran purchases 1 mm cm of gas daily, paying $ 300 per 1,000 cm. Gas is pumped through the Kazi Magomed- Astara-Bind-Biand pipeline having a total length of 1,474.5 km and a throughput capacity for 10 bn cm a year.
Azerbaijan and Iran reached an agreement on gas swaps two years ago. The amount of gas swapped stands at around 350 mm cm a month now.
