Date set for Mozambique-South Africa pipeline

Mar 24, 2008 01:00 AM

Construction of a 450 km fuel pipeline with a capacity to transport more than 5 mm cm of petroleum products to South Africa from Mozambique will start this September.
Salvador Namburete, Mozambican Energy minister, was quoted as saying that the more than $ 500 mm project could be operational by 2011.

He said the pipeline would reduce time taken to transport fuel products from Mozambique's Matola terminal to neighbouring South Africa.
The project, named Petroline, would also reduce cases of theft of petroleum products at the port, he said.
