PetroPeru starts Talara refinery prequalification call

Peru's state oil company PetroPeru has launched an international prequalification call for the FEED-EPC tender for the $ 1 bn Talara refinery modernization project.
Registration will run through April 25 with company information due by April 28, PetroPeru reported. Prequalifiers will be announced on May 12.

The revamp aims to increase refinery capacity to 90,000 bpd from 62,000 bpd, optimize fuel quality at existing units and construct new ones. Talara is 1,185 km north of Lima.
US firm Arthur D. Little carried out the project's feasibility study, the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) is providing financial advisory services and consultancy Walsh is carrying out the EIS. PetroPeru in coming weeks aims to launch bidding for the project's technologies selection and management.

The state oil company also operates the Conchan (13,500 bpd), Iquitos (10,500 bpd) and El Milagro (1,700 bpd) refineries. Last year, PetroPeru produced 75,500 bpd compared to 75,600 bpd in 2006 and 82,900 bpd in 2005.
The bulk of last year's output was diesel 2 (26,400 bpd), followed by industrial oil products (20,100 bpd), gasoline (18,100 bpd), LPG (4,800 bpd), aviation fuel (2,600 bpd), asphalt (1,700 bpd), kerosene (900 bpd) and others (900 bpd).
