Iran and Turkmenistan agree on gas price

Nov 03, 2008 01:00 AM

Iranian and Turkmen energy officials have agreed on a fixed price for the gas imported from Turkmenistan, an Iranian lawmaker says.
"Iran's Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nozari upon his return from Ashgabat said that the two sides have finalized the purchase price," rapporteur of Majlis Energy Commission, Ali Adiani said. He noted that Iran and Turkmenistan are set to finalize their gas deal during an upcoming visit by a Turkmen delegation to Iran.

Turkmenistan cut gas exports to Iran in January 2008, citing technical problems; Ashgabat later resumed its exports to the country but demanded an increase in prices.
Iran gets about 5 % of its gas needs from Turkmenistan.
