Romania launches green energy program

Oct 28, 2008 01:00 AM

Romania launched a national program to encourage renewable energy. The new program, called "Green House," is aimed at providing subsidies to those who install alternative energy production systems in their homes.
Equipment that homeowners buy will be 90 % subsidized, said Romanian Environment Minister Attila Korodi, as long as the homeowners agree to buy their equipment from companies accredited by the ministry.

The program will be implemented on Jan. 5, 2009, and funds will be allocated through the Environment Fund Administration. The types of subsidized equipment include geothermic pumps, solar panels, photovoltaic panels and mini-Aeolian systems.
In addition to the subsidy, Korodi said homeowners will save money on their electric bills once the new equipment is installed.
