Iran launches gas projects in Assaluyeh

Mar 13, 2009 01:00 AM

The ninth and tenth phases of the gigantic Iranian South Pars gas field have been launched with a minimum investment of $ 4.2 bn.
About 60 % of the projects, located in the southern Persian Gulf port of Assaluyeh, have been developed by Iranian contractors. They will produce about 50 mm cm of gas per day which will be consumed domestically.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the projects. He said that launching the project proved that western countries' pressures on Iran failed to stop the progress of the country.
"We think the path of the Iranian nation is very clear. The Iranian nation is strong and we rely on our own abilities. We have no worries or concerns," Ahmadinejad said.

Iran has defined over 20 phases of development for the South Pars gas field. The projects are inaugurated less than four months after the phases sixth, seventh and eighth were launched.
The overall production of the 10 phases that have so far come on-line stands at 250 mm cm (10 bn cf) of gas per day.

Iranian companies are also commissioning the twelfth phase of the gas field.
The South Pars field has 14 tcm of natural gas -- or about 8 % of the world's reserves -- and more than 18 bn barrels of natural gas liquids resources.
