Nine exploration drilling projects in the Barents Sea

Oct 18, 2010 12:00 AM

After two years of standstill, oil and gas companies are ready to start exploration in the Barents Sea again.
Nine exploration drilling projects are planned in the period 2010-2011.

This autumn there will be two exploration drillings in the Barents Sea. The large oil rig “Polar Pioneer” started drilling at the Italian oil company ENI’s Lunde project.
In 2011 there will be another seven exploration drillings in the area.

ENI is the company with the highest level of activity in the Barents Sea, with a total number of three projects.
Oil and gas companies have high hopes for the Norwegian parts of the Barents Sea, but so far the findings have been rather small. Only one gas filed has been developed -- the Snoehvit gas field outside Finnmark. One other project is in development -- the Goliat oil and gas field, also outside Finnmark -- which will be ready for production in 2013.
