Total finds new gas field discovery in Azerbaijan

Sep 09, 2011 12:00 AM

"The management of the French Total Company informed me of discovering large gas reserves on the Absheron field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. And in my turn, I want to present this happy news to the public."
"I want to congratulate all Azerbaijani people on this event. Discovering large gas reserves on the Absheron field is a great contribution to the development of Azerbaijan's gas potential," President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said.

President said Absheron field was discovered by the Azerbaijani geologists in 1960s.
"However, given the depth of the water, then we did not have a possibility to conduct work on this field. As a result of Azerbaijan's oil strategy, and the policy pursued at Heydar Aliyev's initiative, Azerbaijan's opportunities have enormously grown. Now we possess rigs which can conduct drilling and exploration in any part of the Caspian Sea," said the President.
