Dana Petroleum has awarded a $300 million engineering contract to Subsea 7 for its Western Isles project east of Shetland.

Under the contract Subsea 7 will construct and install two 1.6 mile pipeline bundles and one 6.8 mile gas export pipleline.

In December, Dana was granted clearance for a $1.6 billion development of nine wells in the Harris and Barra fields in the UK North Sea. The two fields are estimated to hold recoverable oil reserves of more than 45 million barrels.

Subsea 7 has commenced engineering and project management work on the contract from its Aberdeen office, and said offshore activities are scheduled to begin in 2014.
