83% of Iranians have access to gas

Iran Daily reported that Mr Javad Oji, who is also managing director of National Iranian Gas Company said that 15,300 cities and villages have been linked to the national gas network. He said that gas supply has accelerated during the fourth and fifth plans.

Before the start of Fourth Plan, only 600 cities were linked to the national gas network, but 400 new cities received access since the start of Fourth Plan.

Mr Oji noted that over 12,220 villages have also been linked to the network in the past 8 years.

He said that "At present, 1,000 cities and 14,300 villages have access to gas."

The deputy minister said that increasing gas refining capacity and expanding gas transmission network are major programs of the current Iranian year.

He added that "Iran's share in the global gas trade will rise this year with the launch of new export projects.”

Mr Oji said that between 4 and 5 villages on average have been connected to the national gas network daily since the start of the current Iranian year.
