China's largest offshore oil and gas producer, China National Offshore Oil Group (CNOOC), said it had discovered offshore oil and gas reserves in the Bohai Sea.

The mid-sized exploration discovery is located in shallow waters with average water depths of 100 feet, UPI reported. The area is near the company's Luda 5-2 North and Kenli 9-5/9-6 locations. The Luda locations have a total thickness of 390 feet and 278 feet and production tests have shown the discovery could yield 1,040 barrels of oil per day.

The Kenli structures have a total thickness of 390 feet and 230 feet and could yield 200 bpd of oil, UPI reported.

In July, CNOOC discovered two oil exploration areas in the Bohai Bay estimated to hold as much as 146 billion barrels of oil, according to the source.

The oil and gas producer also recently started a new project in two other shallow offshore fields in the Pearl River Basin. The Wenchang 19-1 North is home to three new wells and Weizhou 12-8 West has five, UPI reported. The new wells are part of the 140 oil wells CNOOC planned to drill this year.
