China's gas output in August rose 6 percent on year to 10.4 billion cubic metres (bcm), news agencies reported Sunday citing data from National Bureau of Statistics.

During the period January-August, gas output was 83.5 bcm, up 3 percent compared with corresponding period last year.

According to data, a sharp slowdown in demand growth has seen state energy companies curbing natural gas output at major conventional fields in southwestern Sichuan basin.

Domestic production fell two months in a row over April and May compared with a year earlier, before returning to moderate growth, the data showed.
