China’s first LNG terminal marked its tenth anniversary of operations on May 26, 2016 with the arrival of Q-Flex Onaiza at the terminal.

With the arrival of Q-Flex Onaiza, Guangdong Dapeng LNG terminal, operated by CNOOC Gas & Power, safely unloaded its 720th cargo. The terminal has till now received more than 48 million tonne of LNG, Guangdong Dapeng LNG Company said in a statement Thursday.

The terminal received its first LNG cargo on May 26, 2006 from Australia’s North West Shelf (NWS) project. Guangdong Dapeng LNG Company has a 25-year contract with Northwest Shell Australia LNG Company for supply of 3.7 million tonne of LNG per year. The contract was signed in October 2002.

The Guangdong LNG terminal was set to relieve energy shortages in the south eastern coastal area of China.
