Zimbabwe puts fiscal framework into place for coal methane gas
Zimbabwe's government has put in place a fiscal framework that allows for sharing risks between itself and investors in the new multi-million dollar commercial exploitation of coal methane gas in Matebeleland north. This was said by the minister of mines and energy, Comrade Edward Chindori-Chininga, at a stakeholders meeting in Bulawayo.
The minister told stakeholders that coal bed methane is destined to boost Zimbabwe's economic growth which is reeling
under economic problems emanating from energy shortages.
He said coal bed methane can be used in the establishment of new power stations based on gas turbines which will
enable the country to stop importing power from other countries. Comrade Chindori-Chininga also said methane can be
used as fuel and supply of power for domestic cooking.
