Large Amenam oil field in production in Nigeria
Elf Petroleum Nigeria plans to start operations at its new Amenam oil field by mid-1997. Amenam, one of the largest oil fields in the country, is located 37 kilometre offshore, in the south-eastern part of the Niger Delta. It has about 100 million barrels of reserves and is expected to boost the country's overall output by 90,000 bpd. A company source said all production compression equipment and living quarters would be assembled onshore, and would be brought on site as one unit on a jack-up. "The high technology reduces the number of platforms required and allows a gain of two or three months on the development schedule," the source said.
