CMS Energy to explore in Cameroon
CMS Energy Corporation's oil and gas exploration and production unit, CMS NOMECO Oil & Gas Co., has announced
that its CMS NOMECO Cameroon Ltd. (37.5%) as operator along with GLOBEX Cameroon, LLC (37.5%) and the Societe
Nationale Des Hydrocarbures, the State oil company of Cameroon (25%) have signed a Convention of Establishment
(production sharing contract) with the Republic of Cameroon to explore for oil and gas onshore in Blocks 1 and 6 of
the Douala Basin.
The blocks are located between the cities of Douala (in the north) and Kribi (in the south) and cover approximately
502,358 acres (2,033 sq km). They include the M'Via, N'Koudou and Benda oil discoveries made several years ago and
considered non-commercial at that time.
The consortium plans to commence exploration activity in early 1998 including an aeromagnetic and gravity survey of
the prospective portion of the Douala Basin, seismic reprocessing and appraisal of the M'Via discovery. The M'Via was
tested in 1982 at rates up to1,090 bpd.
GLOBEX Cameroon is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Global Exploration, Inc., a privately-held exploration and production company based in Houston, Texas. Global Exploration currently obtains oil and gas production from Equatorial Guinea and is a participant in the Stag Field on the Northwest Shelf of Australia. Additionally, Global Exploration is active in the Philippines and Australia.
