The commercial start up of the 210 km Medgaz pipeline, which will run between Beni Saf, off the Algerian coast and the Spanish coast of Almeria, has been delayed.
A spokesman for the Medgaz consortium said the full commissioning of the 8 bn cm capacity gas pipeline is now anticipated for June 2010, with tests on the pipeline scheduled to begin in March 2010.

The Medgaz pipeline is a strategic project for Algeria, Spain, and the rest of Europe, supplying natural gas directly from Algeria, without requiring transit through third countries. The project is currently 90 % complete and crosses the Mediterranean Sea at depths of more than 2 km.
The Medgaz consortium comprises of Enel, Endesa, GdF Suez and Iberdrola.
