Kelman Technologies in Senegal

Mar 11, 1997 01:00 AM

Kelman Technologies has earned a 10 % working interest in the Thies concession block, on shore, Senegal, West Africa. Encouraging drill stem test results have been achieved in recent drilling operations on the Gadiaga No. 2 location on this exploration concession. The 2100 meter exploration well, operated by Societe Des Petroles Du Senegal (Petrosen), tested a series of potential Upper Cretaceous elastic reservoirs. Two zones in the Campanian section tested natural gas at combined rates of approximately 15 mmcfpd. A third zone in the Cenomanian section, tested natural gas at significant flow rates. However, water production was sufficient enough to render the zone uneconomic at this location. The well has been completed as a dual zone producer and will now be production tested for an extended period in order to determine the ultimate reserve base and economic viability of the discovery.
All discoveries of natural gas can be directly marketed to local utilities for the generation of electricalpower which services both industry and local consumption in western Senegal.
The exploration project concession encompasses some 8000 square kilometres of onshore mineral rights in western Senegal. Geologic studies, in combination with an extensive seismic data base, have determined that approximately one third of the concession may be prospective for accumulations of both oil and natural gas at depths ranging from 900 to 4500 meters.
Kelman Technologies anticipates that the recent encouraging drilling activities in Senegal will result in the acquisition of new geophysical data with significant seismic processing requirements.
