Turkmenistan doubles amount of gas deliveries to Iran
Turkmenistan has doubled the amount of gas it delivered to Iran over the first six months of the year. The Central Asian state delivered 2.2 bn cm of gas to its southern neighbour via the Korpedzhe Kurt-Kui pipeline in the first half of 2001, or double the amount sent during the same period last year.
This mostly desert nation plans to deliver 6 bn cm of gas to Iran through the pipeline in 2001. Turkmenistan, which has some of the world's largest gas reserves but lacks pipelines to export the resource, transports almost all of its gas to or via Russia.
