Western Atlas has signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan regarding the expansion of their joint co-operation for the development of Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry.
The memorandum envisages the creation of a national seismic database for Turkmenistan and technical initiatives for the improvement of Turkmenistan's oil and gas exploration and development industry. "This Memorandum on Cooperation reflects the continuing efforts on the part of Western Atlas and the Government of Turkmenistan to work together to lay the foundation for the development of Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry well into the future," said John Russell, President and CEO of Western Atlas.
Recently, Western Atlas conducted an offshore seismic survey on behalf of the Turkmenistan government in the Turkmenistan sector of the Caspian Sea. International oil companies are using results of this survey in their evaluation of hydrocarbon reservoirs.
Western Atlas is currently conducting an additional seismic survey in the shallow-water transition zone of the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea, the results of which are expected to be made available by the Government of Turkmenistan to interested international oil companies.
