Armenia and Iran to discuss further economic co-operations

Visiting Iranian Economic and Financial Affairs Minister Hossein Namazi is to arrive in the Armenian capital for a visit. The minister co-chairs an Iran-Armenian intergovernmental commission for coordination of contacts between the two countries. The commission will meet in a regular session to discuss further development of economic cooperation between both countries.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry said that the sides are expected to discuss the subject of a gas pipeline to be constructed from Iran to Armenia, a joint project for the construction of a hydro-electric power station on the Aras river on the border between the two countries, the construction of an oil and gas pipeline across Armenia's Megri region bordering Iran and a mountain-tunnel from Megri to Kajaran.
The commission will also review a draft agreement on customs cooperation, organization of trade in near-border regions, expansion of scientific and cultural ties. The Iranian delegation will be received by Armenian President Robert Kocharyan.
